The Week in Charities
Kate Magee , PR Week UK, Friday, 20 November 2009, 12:00am,
The Deborah Hutton Campaign, a drive to discourage young people from smoking, is using social marketing agency ICE to launch a youth film-making competition. The competition challenges young people to create films about the dangers of smoking and share them via social networking sites.
Precedent Communications has launched a competition offering a charity £30,000-worth of free support. The agency will develop the winner's website, provide training and create a digital strategy. Charities need to post videos on YouTube explaining why they should win and what difference the prize would make. The Media Trust has also offered bursary places for their training courses for the five runners-up. The deadline is 27 November. Go to http://giveaway.precedent.co.uk/index.htm.
Macmillan Cancer Support has secured Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins to be an ambassador alongside Fearne Cotton, George Michael, Kay Burley and Martin Clunes.
Youth Music is teaming up with the NME for its NME Calling gig series and MySpace for its 'Destroy' fundraising project with photographer Rankin. The charity's director of external relations Michelle James said this would allow the charity to reach millions of young musicians.
