Weber Shandwick and Havas Sport were on tenterhooks for the appointment, but this will now be reviewed by Greenberg, whose appointment was announced on Monday.

Greenberg, outgoing comms and public affairs director for Chelsea FC, will take a central role in the campaign to win enough Fifa votes. The former sports journalist becomes a bid director reporting to chief executive Andy Anson, with a special strategic comms brief.
