The week in charities

The Deborah Hutton Campaign, set up to discourage young people from smoking, is using social marketing agency ICE to launch a youth film-making competition.
The competition challenges young people to create films about the dangers of smoking and share them with their peers via social networking sites.
Precedent Communications has launched a competition for a charity to win £30,000 worth of support. The digital comms agency will develop the winner's website, provide web training and create a digital strategy. To enter, charities need to post short videos on YouTube explaining why they should win and what difference the prize would make to them. The Media Trust has offered bursary places on its training courses for five runners-up. The deadline is 27 November. For details, go to http://giveaway.precedent.co.uk/index.htm
Macmillan Cancer Support has named Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins as an ambassador alongside Fearne Cotton, George Michael, Kay Burley and Martin Clunes.
Youth Music is partnering with NME, for its 'NME Calling' gig series, and MySpace, for its 'Destroy' fundraising initiative. The charity said these partnerships would allow it to reach millions of budding young musicians.
