The Daily Star was the only daily newspaper to have increased its average circulation between April and September, rising 17.5% year on year to 863,805, according to the latest ABC figures. The Daily Star Sunday also increased its circulation, by 1.5% to 386,265.
The Independent's circulation fell 16.5% in the period to an average of 194,947. The Independent on Sunday fell 19.9% to 161,719.
The Times' circulation dropped 5.9% to an average of 583,094. Other News International titles in decline included The Sun, which was down 2.5% to 3.1m, and News of the World, down 4.6% to 3m. The Sunday Times recorded an increase of 1.5% to 1.2m.
The Daily Telegraph's average circulation dropped 5.5% to 814,440, while that for The Sunday Telegraph fell 3.8% to 603,031.
The Guardian's average circulation fell 5% to 327,937, while The Observer, which Guardian Media Group had been rumoured to be closing, was down 9.9% to 396,285.
The Financial Times' average circulation fell 6.5% to 407,250 over the period.
