LONDON - Treasury minister Stephen Timms is being tipped to take over from Stephen Carter as communications minister to push through the government's Digital Britain report.
Timms, a former e-commerce minister and technology analyst, will work across the Treasury the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), according to reports.
Publishers and communications companies have voiced concern that Lord Carter's plans would fall by the wayside on his departure.
Lord Carter's proposals included a broadband tax, ensuring all British homes have access to fast broadband internet by 2012, switching off the analogue radio signal and top-slicing the licence fee to pay for regional news and other broadcasters.
