11 June I thoroughly enjoyed presenting my 'Why CEOs are scared of social media' session at International Association of Business Communicators' San Francisco shindig. Saw a good session from Gerard Braud (Braud Communications), and heard one standout quote from Jerry Stevenson (Buck Consultants) that I really wanted to share: 'Technology doesn't solve communication problems; great communicators do.'

10 June 'Web 2.0' became the one millionth word or phrase in the English language, according to the Global Language Monitor. Other words immediately preceding 'Web 2.0' were 'slumdog,' 'cloud computing' and 'carbon neutral'. What is surprising to me is not just that so many of the neologisms come from the world of technology, but how long it takes them to achieve sanctified status.

10 June Nieman Journalism Lab has reported that Google News is using Wikipedia pages as sources of mainstream online news in its results. Neiman Lab's post and The Guardian's follow-up on this issue are both worth reading. A recurring question from PR managers in organisations is: 'Should our department be managing our own Wikipedia page?'
