Public Sector: Haringey PR boss speaks
PR Week UK, Friday, 12 December 2008, 12:00am,
Haringey head of comms Mike Browne has finally spoken out about the fallout from the Baby P tragedy.
Browne, who oversaw comms for the council during the media debacle, acknowledged that the death of Baby P and the Government report that followed had 'done serious damage to the reputation of child protection in the borough and nationally'.
He added: 'This is something we will need to work on with council, health and police comms colleagues.'
Browne also said that he was not involved in any resignation decisions, but added 'comms can offer support and advice in how these decisions are presented'.
The comms chief had previously declined to comment on the Baby P case when approached by PRWeek.
This week, it was reported that Haringey spent £19,000 on media training for employees involved in the case, such as children's services director Sharon Shoesmith.
It was also announced this week that Shoesmith has been dismissed with immediate effect. She will not receive any compensation.
