Voluntary Sector: The Week in Charities
PR Week UK, Friday, 12 December 2008, 12:00am,
Arsenal Football Club is dedicating next week's Premier League clash against Liverpool to the Teenage Cancer Trust. The football club is running PR-led activity to raise funds and awareness of the partnership ahead of the game on 21 December. Arsenal players and directors will be donating a day's wages to the charity and will encourage supporters to contribute to the 'Be a Gooner, Be a Giver' campaign. The club also filmed an ad, with a voice-over by comedian Matt Lucas, that features Arsenal players in comedy scenarios helping teenagers with cancer.
Livewire Public Relations, a specialist in the education sector, has donated a book for every child at an orphanage in South Africa to promote International Literary Day. Ikholwa, the orphanage in Johannesburg, is dedicated to improving the lives of abandoned and orphaned children who have been affected by HIV/Aids.
Soul of Africa, a charity that invests in facilities for orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa, has signed up Somerset-based ADPR. The agency will work to raise awareness of how the charity creates sustainable employment for South African women through making hand-stitched footwear, as well as raising money for orphans and vulnerable children affected by Aids.
