The Editor's Desk - Benedicte Paviot, UK correspondent, France 24
PR Week UK, Friday, 05 December 2008, 12:00am,
- What is France 24?
France 24 is a 24-hour international news channel. It covers world news, business, sports, culture, science and weather. Offering a French perspective on world events, the channel broadcasts in French, English and Arabic, covers UK news and is an alternative to the BBC and CNN.
- France 24's second anniversary is this month. Any big plans you can tell us about?
We just won two awards in Britain from the Association for International Broadcasting, including best international channel of the year. We have also launched France 24 Mobile, which offers all versions of France 24 on all the world's mobile phones.
- What makes a good France 24 story?
One that is important for the country concerned. Recently we've reported extensively on the financial crisis, the recapitalisation of major banks and the effects the crisis has had on individual businesses and families. I also reported in 2007 on the foot-and-mouth outbreak in the UK.
- Do you have any PR pet peeves?
PROs who keep ringing us despite being told we won't be covering a story or event.
- Of which story are you most proud?
My reporting on the handover between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown - the challenge was to go beyond the news and report on more discreet changes.
- What are your media must-haves?
The Daily Telegraph, Financial Times, The Times, The Independent, Daily Mail, The Sun, the Today programme, BBC and Sky News, Newsnight, Question Time and Spooks.
- How do you keep up to date with social media?
I don't have enough time to Twitter, but I read BBC blogs.
