Murray will be responsible for all entertainment and factual productions and will support the expansion of stv's network TV business.

Murray has worked in television for 15 years. As series editor at Crackit Productions, he worked on Piers Morgan's recent series The Dark Side of Fame and Channel 4's F**k Me I've Bought a Zoo. Previously, he established the Scottish office of independent producers Endemol.

Murray will report to stv's director of content, Alan Clements. He is the first major appointment since Clements was appointed to his present role earlier this month.

Clements is currently reviewing the content business at stv and is expected shortly to announce plans to strengthen the company's content output.

Clements said "rich, quality" content was critical to the success of stv as it aims to become a key provider to all network channels and added that Murray would be an invaluable member of the team.
