High-end haircare brand ghd has handed its UK and global PR accounts to Shine Communications as it comes under criticism from the Advertising Standards Authority.

The brand is mired in controversy after its advertising campaign, which has religious references, was deemed offensive to Christians.

Shine creative director Rana Reeves said the brief was 'to maintain the premium positioning of the brand', with an emphasis on digital and viral activity. In April, ghd took on Borkowski to position the brand as 'more than just straighteners'. Borkowski MD Larry Franks said the relationship 'had broken down' as there was no dedicated PR liaison at the client.
