Elsevier health mags likely to close

LONDON - Elsevier Health Sciences is expected to close several of its UK magazines in the New Year.
The publisher blamed what it termed “limited” opportunities for growth in the UK physician print magazines market.
The publisher said in an internal memo to staff that it had undertaken a review of its business and has begun a consultation process with healthcare staff in its Sutton office about the future of the publications.
The memo said that the likely outcome would be the closure of Doctor, Hospital Doctor and Update magazines. Meanwhile Practice Nurse will be absorbed into Elsevier’s nursing titles.
Rob Finch, editor of Hospital Doctor, said no final decision has yet been taken on the three titles’ futures. There is also no decision yet concerning the future free-to-access online repository DoctorPortal, which launched in October.
