Focus on ... The New Year's Day Parade

More than 8000 performers will take part in the annual London parade, now in its 22nd year.
- Its historic 2.2-mile route will take in the capital's sights including Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, Pall Mall, Lower Regent St and Piccadilly Circus.
- The parade, which is supported by BBC London 94.9, is expected to draw crowds of more than 400,000.
- The parade will feature vintage cars, traction engines, carnival queens and marching bands; last year it was beamed to 200m homes in the US, Europe and the Middle East.
