The Crown at Whitebrook is nestled in the beautiful Wye Valley in South Wales, close to the up and coming city of Newport, which will host the 2010 Ryder Cup. The restaurant has an impressive list of accolades including being the only restaurant in Wales in 2007 to gain a Michelin star.
As part of a recent foodie press trip to South Wales, we took a group of journalists for dinner. It proved the perfect setting for a briefing.
We received an attentive and friendly welcome from the general manager and his team. The restaurant seats around 25 people and offers an intimate dining experience. It is stylish, upmarket and has a relaxed atmosphere.
Head chef James Sommerin takes pride in the fact most of the produce is locally sourced - many of the products are True Taste of Wales Award winners. The food is beautifully presented and served with the utmost care and attention, accompanied by tales of the restaurant's rich history. A range of mouth-watering dishes fuse classic French with modern British methods.
The Crown offers a great place for a meeting as noise levels are at a minimum. After the meal guests can relax on comfortable sofas with coffee.
