Human rights charity Amnesty International has appointed Kerry Hutchinson to its top UK marketing job.

Human rights charity Amnesty International has appointed Kerry Hutchinson to its top UK marketing job.

Hutchinson replaces Simon Stanley, who left earlier this year to join the National Asthma Campaign. She joins Amnesty from NCH Action for Children after six years in a number of roles, including assistant director of external affairs and donor development manager.

Hutchinson's brief is to broaden Amnesty's membership base, which stands at around 160,000 in the UK, through a new communications strategy. Amnesty's marketing is handled by WWAV Rapp Collins West and Catalyst Works. Hutchinson said there are no plans for a review.

'The Amnesty International brand is a strong one, and my aim is to strengthen it further through effective supporter care and integrated communications,' she said.

Amnesty's marketing communications have often been controversial. Earlier this year the group was forced to defend a mailing which led many recipients to believe they were being threatened with beheading or torture.
