Carlton Online this week launches a pounds 1m TV campaign to promote food site www.simplyfood.co.uk. The new ad push follows a recent campaign for sister site www.jamba.co.uk. MoneyeXtra.com, the consumer personal finance site, is launching a
month-long pounds 300,000 campaign to boost awareness and traffic to its
site. The campaign, managed by Saatchi & Saatchi, takes in national
print advertising and online spots on Yahoo! and Excite. The web address
is www.exchange.co.uk.
L’Oreal has launched a new e-commerce site for its Maybelline cosmetics
brand. Web design was by Interactive8, New York. It can be found at
www.maybelline.com.
SyNet Communication has joined the e-commerce fray with the launch of a
new online department store, The-NetStore, on its Leisure District
site.
Visitors will be able to purchase goods including leisurewear,
sportswear, fragrances and jewellery. The web addresses are
www.the-netstore.net and www.leisuredistrict.net.
Virgin Direct, the personal finance service company, has launched a new
site aimed at educating teenagers about money matters, and offering
advice on spending and saving. Web design was by new media outfit Studio
Soup.

Vnunet.com, the online arm of Dutch IT publishing giant VNU, is to
relaunch its web site next month. The company has signed up with online
loyalty scheme Beenz to help drive traffic to the site. The web address
is www.vnunet.com.
The Mitsubishi Pencil Company has unveiled a new site for its Uni-ball
Signo pen range. The site is aimed at 11- to 19-year-olds and aims to
collect data on potential customers, such as their favourite pop icons
and preferred lifestyle brands. Development was by integrated
advertising agency Broadway and web house Westhill. The site can be
found at www.signo.co.uk.
Body Island, the online health and fitness web site, has undergone a
major revamp. The site now includes information on health issues such as
fitness, weight loss, nutrition and relationships, as well as a
dedicated women’s section. Other features include local listings
information on health and fitness services, a weekly e-mail newsletter
service, and an online shop selling vitamins, music, books and gym
equipment. The site currently has over 30,000 members and can be found
at www.bodyisland.com.
Pres.co, the new media agency, has appointed Steve Paler as senior
account manager, working across accounts for Dr Martens, PowerGen and
Abbey National.
He previously ran his own new media firm, DNPi. The agency, which
started the year with 101 employees, now employs 132 people, and expects
staff numbers to rise to 150 by the end of 1999.

Radio 1 has unveiled a new-look web site featuring a virtual panoramic
tour of studios and live audio, as well as searchable club listings.
Other sections include a gig guide, chart information and a web cam, so
visitors can check out what their favourite DJs are up to in the studio.
Users can also vote for their favourite tracks on the current playlist,
and exchange views in the online forum. The address of the web site is
www.bbc.co.uk/radio1.
Reaction, the student sampling agency, has launched a new
student-focused free internet access service (ISP), dubbed Hot Toast.
The service features a sports and TV guide, as well as a problem page,
chat rooms and club listings provided by Sleazenation. It will also
distribute free copies of Penguin Hutchinson’s CD-ROM reference library,
comprising a dictionary, encyclopedia and thesaurus. Copies of the
CD-ROM software will be distributed in over a million student welcome
packs throughout September and October.

The X-Stream Network has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide, which will
see the free internet access service (ISP) distribute its content. The
site will take content from beeb.com sites including Top Gear, Radio
Times and Gardener’s World. The web address is www.x-stream.com.
