LGA task for council director
PR Week UK, Wednesday, 04 July 2007, 1:00pm,
The Local Government Association has brought in Harrow Council director Paul Najsarek to oversee its corporate comms while Jenny Crighton is on maternity leave.
Najsarek joins in August as interim director of corporate strategy and public affairs, reporting in to LGA chief executive Phil Coen.
He is currently director of people, performance and policy at Harrow Council. In his current role, Najsarek is responsible for strategy, communications, the Local Strategic Partnership, performance management, programme management, scrutiny, human resources and organisational development. He is a member of a number of LGA policy groups, including two of the White Paper project boards.
Previously head of policy at the Audit Commission, Najsarek has also worked in the US House of Representatives.
‘This exciting and challenging role has come at a time when local government has the best opportunity in a generation to get further power to better serve local people,’ he said.
Crighton took up her role last November (PRWeek, 17 November 2006). She was already employed at the LGA as one of six programme directors.
The LGA lobbies on behalf of local government in England and Wales and has been instrumental within the devolution agenda.
In 2005 the LGA launched the reputation campaign in a bid to overhaul the image of local government.
Members who sign up to the project are asked to complete simple communications tasks such as producing an A-Z of services (PRWeek, 22 April 2005).
