Camden questions Wikipedia rants
PR Week UK, Friday, 08 June 2007, 12:00am,
Camden Council's comms manager Ashley Wilcox sent an email whizzing around council inboxes this week complaining about online encyclopaedia Wikipedia.
The letter accused the site of 'ranting' about corruption and harsh parking policies at the authority and pleaded for help from fellow PROs.
Diary's favourite line reads: 'The rants are mainly based on facts, so it's not as if it's untrue. But it might be worth a look to see if your residents have posted rants about you.'
Remarkably, Wilcox's rambling appears to have worked. 'Wikipedia has exercised quality control, we were seeking advice from other local authorities but the information was removed before we had any feedback,' said a Camden spokeswoman.
