Pearson Television has hired the man responsible for Steven
Spielberg’s merchandising deals to head its own worldwide merchandising
operation.
Simon Spalding will take on the new role of executive vice-president for
worldwide merchandising. Spalding takes up his new post next month.
He was, until recently, head of consumer products for Spielberg’s
DreamWorks in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australasia.
He joined DreamWorks in 1996 from Hasbro’s European strategic marketing
division, where he was made senior vice-president of the toy group in
1995. This followed several years working on marketing, new product and
business development across a range of household brands.
Catherine Mackay, chief executive of Pearson Television’s Enterprises
division, said: ’Simon brings direct and valuable experience of areas we
are trying to develop for Pearson, through both new media and old.’
Pearson Television sells its comprehensive catalogue to more than 100
territories.
