Tesco is putting more management muscle behind its non-food sector
by giving commercial director Simon Uwins the sole responsibility for
non-food areas.
The retailer has appointed two new commercial directors. Andrew Batty
will look after meat, fresh produce and dairy, while Sandra Turner takes
charge of dry groceries and household products. They replace Colin
Smith, who is moving over to become a retail managing director.
Commercial director Steve Ager remains in place looking after alcohol
and bakery. Tesco now has four commercial directors.
A Tesco spokesman said the changes will put expertise behind the areas
that are driving sales, such as clothing, CDs, and books. Last week,
Tesco reported that non-food sales have risen by 40%.
