Herring Levy in an effort to convince Tony Blair that he should be one
of Labour’s shortlisted candidates for Mayor of London. The former GLC
leader is relying on supporters’ donations to pay for ads.
The agency is working on a series of press ads that will break in
March.
They are expected to call on the Labour leadership to accept
Livingstone’s candidacy. While Mustoes declined to reveal the content,
it described the executions as ’hard hitting’.
Livingstone has said he ’will not go quietly’ if his move to stand for
mayor is blocked. Labour is still undecided on the rules for selecting
the candidate, although Livingstone believes the National Executive
Committee panel, which shortlists Labour candidates, has been rigged
against him.
The election takes place in May 2000
