The film director Mehdi Norowzian is to appeal against last week’s High
Court decision that Guinness’s 1995 ’Anticipation’ commercial by Arks
had not infringed the copyright of his short film called Joy.
The Cardiff-based broadcaster S4C has appointed Richard Moreman,
business director at MindShare, as its advertising and sponsorship
director.
Virgin Atlantic may be the new sponsor of this year’s Notting Hill
Carnival after Nescafe announced a last-minute decision to pull out. The
sponsorship deal, worth pounds 350,000, would provide a perfect
marketing opportunity for Virgin Atlantic to promote its latest route to
the Caribbean. A source said it would be called Virgin Atlantic Notting
Hill Carnival.
ITV has promised a ’marketing blitz’ to accompany the network’s new
autumn programming line-up, unveiled to media buyers on Tuesday. There
will be heavy on-air promotion and press, poster and radio work, as well
as a new logo. Commercial and marketing director John Hardie said the
idea was to ’create an expectation of significant new programming’ on
the network.
US book-shop chain Borders, set to launch in the UK this summer, has
appointed Bean Andrews Norways Cramphorn to create its advertising. The
agency already works with Books Etc, which Borders took over earlier
this year.
Young & Rubicam’s advertising to launch Ford’s new car, the Cougar, will
feature Dennis Hopper, the American actor famous for his roles in Easy
Rider, Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet.
Chanel marketing director Stephen Gilbert has left after eight years
with the luxury goods firm. Gilbert, who was responsible for launching
Chanel’s latest brand, Allure, said his departure was by ’mutual
agreement’ and he is seeking a similar role with another company.
Hazlewood Foods has appointed McBains to handle advertising for its new
Gary Rhodes frozen ready-meal range, Rhodes To Home.
Euro RSCG Direct has been appointed to handle a through-the-line
campaign for Royal Doulton jewellery. The campaign will comprise
national press advertising and direct mail.
Ski yoghurt has relaunched its Extra Fruit brand with a pounds 2m
national TV campaign this week. The 30-second commercial, created by
Bates Dorland, is called a ’Latin Lesson for Fruit lovers’.
