Ad campaign in focus



Canon is launching a pounds 4m product-based ad campaign this autumn

with TV, cinema and radio ads. The camera ads were created by Grey

Advertising and the printer ads were by WCRS.



Barclays goes online



Barclays has teamed up with Microsoft to deliver an online PC banking

service through Microsoft Money ’97, the computer company’s online

financial services software, to be launched next year. Consumers will

need Microsoft Windows 95 and a modem to access Barclays PC banking

service.



IPC Asda link-up



IPC’s title Woman and Home is running a Christmas promotion with Asda,

in which customers buying the December issue will get IPC’s sister title

Essentials for pounds 1 at Asda stores nationally.



Zenith hits China



Zenith Media has opened media offices in Hong Kong and China, making it

the largest planning and buying point in Greater China.



Ratings rave



ITV claims it has turned in its best weekend ratings performance this

year with last Friday’s peak-time share of 42.2% (BBC1 26.3%),

Saturday’s share of 44.5% (BBC1 37.2%) and 58.2% on Sunday (BBC1 21.2%).



Own-label boast



British retailers are ahead of Europe in own-label products, according

to research from Strategic Vision. Marks & Spencer comes top, with 99%

of its packaged goods being own-label. With a mature own-label market in

the UK, Strategic Vision says that continental demand gives UK food and

drink manufacturers the opportunity to expand their export market.



Sega game offer



A joint promotion has been set up between Sega and Yoplait Dairy Crest

for Sega’s computer toy, Pico. The promotion, put together by CBH

Marketing Communications, gave yoghurt buyers the chance to win one of

50 Picos as well as T-shirts.



Business boost



The Periodical Publishers’ Association is running a Business Magazines’

Week this week to raise the profile of business magazines among

advertisers and agencies. It has also produced a Business Magazines

Handbook to provide a guide to the medium.



Meter force



British Gas and Group 4 have joined forces to launch a new company,

AccuRead Ltd, which will take over management of meter reading.
