Number of people in the team? Fifty.
Who does what?
There are too many people to mention individually, but FoneStarz is headed by an executive team consisting of CEO Dave Moreau, CFO Henry Fairpo and COO Grant Smuts, who are supported by the senior management team covering publishing, operations, finance, product development, marketing and sales. A 20-strong publishing department and an experienced content services section, as well as technical, marketing and operations divisions, make up the rest of the FoneStarz team. There is also a three-man team in Australia, lead by Richard Leifer, which looks after the Asia Pacific territories.
Who is the biggest character and why?
The dreaded question! It could be a number of people including Grant, our polo-playing COO; James "ringtones" Burling, guaranteed to have you humming a cheesy tune by 9.15am; Joe "smiling tech genius" Gilmore, or Muneni Anderson, who keeps the content services team firmly grounded!
What is your office atmosphere like?
Lively, stimulating, creative, but most importantly, fun. As it's a young and vibrant team, our office has quite a buzzy atmosphere. We are constantly receiving new content from suppliers including MTV, BBC, FHM and ITV, which needs reviewing and assessing - obviously some cause more com-motion than others! As specialists in mobile content retailing, we are frequently launching new services and content genre, reviewing portal promotion and positioning on networks globally, which leads to a lot of office discussion and debate. Informality is the key and a minimal "corporate structure" ensures transparency throughout the firm.
What stands your company apart from the rest of the industry?
Long-standing relationships with some of the world's largest mobile operators obviously helps, but Fone-Starz is more than just a platform - the in-house team of video and graphic publishing staff and service managers make this a unique mobile publishing house. The firm's in-house content management system allows the dynamic publishing and retailing of content worldwide from our UK headquarters and we have already sold more than 6.5 million units of mobile content in 2006. FoneStarz is an experienced company working hard to get extraordinary results in the supply and management of all mobile content. We work closely with global brands such as Ferrari, Manchester United, Sports Illustrated and the US giant American Greetings.
What does it take to get a job in your team?
Humour, talent and creativity are essential qualities for anyone joining the team, but flexibility and a willingness to learn and adapt to different roles are also just as important. We are always looking for talented people and new members are often recruited through personal recommendation.
How are staff encouraged to hit targets?
Quiet rivalry between departments creates a naturally keen environment where people want to excel. However, team leaders also ensure everyone is focused on the stats and individual operator performance.
Where do you all let your hair down?
For the team at the St Ives office, it's the Golden Lion. The London office favours the Winchester Club (in the basement of the office block and a little too handy!), while at the Sydney office it's more a case of "now which will it be tonight?"
