Insiders' Guide - TILT (The Insert & Leaflet Team)
Media Week, Media Week, Tuesday, 25 July 2006, 12:00am,
TILT is a newish company based in Southampton, which specialises in direct response and collaborative publishing. Having just completed a busy schedule, they may be found chilling out at the nearby marina with a cold one.
NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN YOUR TEAM
Four.
WHO DOES WHAT?
Ben Allan is managing director and his expertise in targeting the right market at the right time, along with his long-standing client relationships, stands us in good stead as a business. Most importantly, he is always there to support the team. Judith Brunson is the office manager; she's Ben's right-hand woman and looks after all operational aspects of the business. Jay D'Souza and Jennifer Baillie are both advertising sales managers taking care of the whole process, from winning new business to assessing results with longstanding clients.
WHO IS THE BIGGEST CHARACTER AND WHY?
It has to be Jay with her zany outfits and she can often be heard singing along to the tunes that should remain inside her head!
WHAT IS YOUR OFFICE ATMOSPHERE LIKE AND WHY?
It has been all hands on deck recently as we have just finished our busiest copy deadline, due to running five asrecommended publications in one month, including the launch of the new asrecommended Money title. However, the atmosphere is pretty chilled with a lot of laughter, as we all gel together really well as a team. Our offices are right by the marina in Southampton so we can't really be stressed when we're surrounded by beautiful boats bobbing along in the Solent.
WHAT STANDS YOU APART FROM THE REST OF THE INDUSTRY?
The asrecommended titles are the only publications in the UK that specialise in direct response and collaborative publishing. We partner with leading insurance, lending and motoring providers to enable consumers to quickly find the information they require and our door drops are coupled by an online directory. Seeing the success of our publications is great motivation as the company is still young, at two and a half years old!
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET A JOB IN YOUR TEAM?
You need to be an intelligent multi-skilled individual who is passionate about personal and team achievements; the most important characteristic would have to be sense of humour, however. Not much to ask!
HOW ARE STAFF ENCOURAGED TO HIT TARGETS?
Ben decides on a variety of fun incentives for individuals and the team as a whole. For example, we are currently working towards a spa day and a ski trip.
WHERE DO YOU ALL LET YOUR HAIR DOWN?
There are plenty of great bars and restaurants within walking distance of our offices, so you might find us all down at the marina with a cold one.
