Younger plans to step down
PR Week UK, Thursday, 06 July 2006, 12:00am,
Finsbury co-founder Rupert Younger is to step back from full-time consultancy at the end of the year.
The City PR grandee will then focus on teaching reputation management at a business school. Younger, who co-founded Finsbury with Roland Rudd in 1994, will work for the City agency for one day a week from 1 January.
He is in talks with two unnamed business schools to set up a ‘centre for reputation management’. He would teach the skills required by a CEO to deal with investors, analysts and the press, as well as customer relations, internal comms, CSR and legal and regulatory affairs.
Younger said many business schools did not do enough to equip senior managers who would one day become CEOs. ‘There is an educational gap and I’ve been thinking about working in the area for a while,’ said Younger.
As to his Finsbury responsibilities, he said: ‘Finsbury has a strong bench of senior practitioners and I will transfer day-to-day responsibilities to this team over the next few months. ‘I’ll continue to focus on two main areas [at Finsbury] – advising established clients and offering advice internally,’ he added.
Younger has advised most of Finsbury’s major transactional clients over its 12-year history. He also advises retained clients Burberry, Royal & SunAlliance and Friends Provident.
