BAA bid lifts agencies on £10bn offer

Brunswick regained top spot in PRWeek's latest Deal Watch, relegating Finsbury and Citigate Dewe Rogerson to second and third respectively.
Airport Development and Investment's bid for the British Airports Authority (BAA) reached £10.2bn in June, and shaped the Deal Watch table. Brunswick (BAA), Citigate and Spanish agency Grupo Albion (both on the potential acquirer side), all benefited.
Brunswick, with 23 deals overall, represented Old Mutual in its £3.3bn bid for Swedish insurer Skandia. It also worked on the completion of Nippon Sheet Glass's £1.8bn acquisition of glass firm Pilkington. Finsbury, in the top four for the third consecutive month, was involved in some of June's biggest deals.
Its continued work for Associated British Ports saw the agency advise on three separate bids by Admiral Acquisitions, the highest of which was £2.79bn. Tulchan Communications sat on the other side of the deal. Citigate advised GI Partners on its role in Punch Taverns' disposal of 290 pubs to Orchid Pubs (of which GI is the parent) for £571m.
Temple Bar Advisory made a rare appearance in Deal Watch - at sixth - by virtue of its work for insurer Resolution in its £3.6bn acquisition of Abbey National's life assurance arm. The deal, one of only two for Temple Bar this month, edged the agency ahead of Maitland (with nine deals in seventh) and College Hill (with 17 deals in eighth).
In terms of the volume of deals, College Hill was third, behind Brunswick and Financial Dynamics, which worked on a characteristically high number (38) of deals. But lack of involvement in the month's major deals saw FD creep in at ninth in the table itself.
