MADRID – Luxury car maker Porsche has put Jose Antonio Ruiz at the helm of its public relations and communications department in Madrid.

Ruiz replaces Mario Camacho, who took a post as marketing director for Spanish real-estate firm Nicolas Mateos, a Porsche spokeswoman told PRWeek Worldwire.

Ruiz will lead a 2-strong team reporting to Porsche Spain’s general manager Joaquin Lamla.

The appointment of Ruiz, who was Spanish marketing chief since 1999, comes at a time of rising fortunes for Volkswagen-owned Porsche.

The company, famous for its Boxster and 911 sport luxury models, sold 2,576 cars in Spain in fiscal 2005.

“We are expecting higher sales this year,” the spokeswoman said, adding that the communications team will be busy promoting new launches for the brand.

Those actions include the introduction of the upgraded Cayman sports coupe at the end of the summer and the 911 Targa by year-end, as well as other model extensions and marketing initiatives, the spokeswoman added.
