PR Week UK, Thursday, 27 April 2006, 12:00am,
Tesco has appointed Reuters’ European retail correspondent Trevor Datson to help it cope with the intensifying media examination of its relentless growth.
Datson will take the title of media manager when he joins Tesco at the end of May after 12 years at the newswire.
Reporting to external comms manager Jonathan Church, he has been brought in to work on corporate affairs. His role will revolve predominantly around media relations strategy.
'Trevor has extensive experience of the business side of the sector and the role has been created to cope with our growth,' said Church.
Tesco posted record annual profits of £2.2bn on Tuesday and vowed to open another 130 UK stores. It also revealed plans to restructure its £12bn property portfolio, which City analysts believe will raise £1bn.
