Channel 4 dishes up cold turkey to heroin addicts

LONDON – Channel 4 is getting ready to serve cold turkey to three heroin addicts as they aim to get off the drug for a live TV series.
Independent production company Firefly, behind Gunther Von Hagens' series 'The Autopsy', is installing 'Big Brother' style cameras into the treatment clinic, tracking the heroin addicts over a week as they try to overcome the drug.
The as-yet-to-be-named series is to be broadcast twice daily, with a 30-minute pre-recorded morning show and a 30-minute late evening episode, which will feature live action from the clinic.
The show was jointly commissioned by Channel 4's science and education department and will be used in schools to train 14- to 19-year-old pupils on the dangers of drug use.
Co-director Nick Curwin said: "The idea is to demonstrate the extent of the grip heroin can have on people. It's a campaign piece without being worthy."
The show is due for broadcast in February.
