McDonald’s reshuffle sparks hunt for lobby chief

The restructure has been triggered by the promotion of McDonald's UK head of internal comms Ali Carruthers to join its European team as head of management comms. Hindle has handed media relations manager Amanda Pierce additional responsibility for internal comms.

Weber's successor will be expected to play a major role representing the company on Ofcom's forthcoming consultation on food advertising to children, due out in February. The role also involves liaising with MPs and devolved parliaments over McDonald's regeneration and environmental responsibilities, and raising awareness of its community football programmes. 

'It's all about creating greater understanding of the economic and social contribution we make,' said Hindle. He added that the
restructure provided an 'opportunity to develop people and expand their skills'.

The PA manager will also handle the company's relationship with its retained agency, Bell Pottinger Public Affairs.

McDonald's was this week due to release its first European CSR report aimed at EU policy makers, pressure groups, suppliers and staff. It purports to openly address issues of obesity, marketing practices and working conditions after discussions with nutritionists, NGOs and journalists.
