Mondex is launching the first UK trial of its multi-purpose card
system, Multos, which can fit loyalty schemes, credit and debit card
details and personal information on the same piece of plastic.
The pilot scheme, at Aston University in Birmingham, will give 6500
students a card containing an electronic purse, security pass, identity
card, library pass, National Union of Students membership and student
voting registration.
The Multos scheme, which uses smart technology, is backed by a
consortium of companies including MasterCard, Motorola, Hitachi and
Seimens, and will ultimately give consumers a variety of facilities,
such as credit card, debit card, an electronic purse, travel card and
retail loyalty membership, all on one card.
NatWest and Midland hold the franchise for Mondex in the UK.
