The Rothermere family has leapfrogged porn publisher Paul Raymond to become the highest media entry in the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

The family is the largest stakeholder in the Daily Mail and General Trust – publishers of the Daily Mail, London Evening Standard, Metro and Loot through Associated Newspapers – and moved into 38th place in the richest 1,000 in the
Compilers of the annual list, which was released last weekend, estimate the Rothermere clan to have amassed a fortune of around £798m.
The remaining top five media entries include Express Newspapers’ owner Richard Desmond (£700m), Financial Times parent company owners, the Pearson family (£644) and Raymond (£600m).
Leading advertising figures in the latest release include motor racing trackside specialist Paddy McNally (99th place, £402m), the Saatchi brothers (305th place, £127m), WPP boss Sir Martin Sorrell (378th place, £104m) and his old adversary Chris Ingram (joint 666th place, £60m).
