Channel 4 appoints new business director

Rod Henwood, chief executive of Premium TV, as been appointed by Channel 4 to take on a newly created role of new business director.

Joining in August this year and taking a seat in an expanded boardroom of five executive directors, Henwood will have responsibility for Channel 4’s commercial division 4 Ventures and other business opportunities such as partnerships and sponsorships.

The new position has been created to tap what Channel 4 chief executive Andy Duncan has called “a window of opportunity” for the broadcaster to its grow its presence in the digital media arena.

Henwood’s role will incorporate those of commercial director Rob Woodward, who left in January 2004, plus Anmar Kawash, managing director of 4 Ventures, who is set to leave in July.

Prior to the top job at Premium TV, Henwood held senior positions at NTL, Fox Kids Europe and Carlton Communications.

Duncan said: “Rod has an excellent range of senior management experience within the media industries which matches Channel 4's portfolio of commercial interests.

“He's worked in all forms of television - network, multi-channel and interactive - as well as for a digital platform operator and most recently he's been at the helm of Premium TV, a significant new media company.

“Channel 4 has a window of opportunity in the next few years to expand its presence in the digital world and broaden its revenue base and Rod's arrival on our senior management team will be a considerable boost to our ambitions in these areas.”
