Pearson: renamed Thames TV for UK

Pearson Television is to be rebranded as FremantleMedia, as the result of the company's merger with CLT-UFA to form the RTL Group last year.

With immediate effect, the name FremantleMedia will be adopted across most territories, including Worldwide Production, Pearson Television North America and Pearson Television International and Enterprises.

However, Pearson TV's operations will be renamed Thames TV in the UK.

Pearson bought Thames TV in 1993 after the latter lost the ITV London weekday franchise to Carlton Communications.

The merger means the company is no longer a wholly owned subsidiary of Pearson.

FremantleMedia's senior management team worked closely with leading brand consultants Lambie-Nairn to develop the name.

FremantleMedia chief executive Tony Cohen said: "We believe the name FremantleMedia, like Pearson Television before it, will become synonymous with some of the best entertainment and drama programme brands in the world."
