Cancer Research UK has hired Macmillan Cancer Relief's parliamentary affairs manager Kevin Shinkwin to spearhead its mission to make all UK workplaces smoke-free.
Shinkwin has joined in the role of cancer campaigns manager, with responsibility for the charity's anti-smoking CancerCampaigns initiative, which was unveiled in March.
Cancer Research chief executive Professor Alex Markham has led calls from the health lobby for the imposition of a ban on smoking in public places.
Cancer Research has in addition promoted head of public affairs Richard Davison to the role of director of public affairs, reporting to executive director of policy and communications Maxine Taylor.
