Diary: BBC satire tells a few home truths
PR Week UK, Friday, 05 August 2005, 12:00am,
BBC2 show Absolute Power, starring Stephen Fry and John Bird, has again got PROs glued to their TVs.
The show, which depicts the goings-on at fictional agency Prentiss McCabe, has many moments to make those at the more cut-throat agencies smile - or wince.
The programme has already name-checked Freud Communications, but one PR man definitely tuning in is Luther Pendragon co-founder George Pitcher.
Pitcher, who runs Luther with Charles Stewart-Smith, says one media pal told him 'it was terribly clever of me to have got the Fry character called "Charles" when he was so obviously me'.
He can't resist adding: 'Freud has cleverly product-placed his firm.
So sad, though, that it is as the outfit that is constantly outmanoeuvred by the thinly disguised Luther Pendragon.'
