Mencap targets credit-card firms
PR Week UK, Friday, 26 November 2004, 12:00am,
Mencap is to mount an attack on credit and store-card companies who prey on people with learning disabilities at Christmas.
The charity wants to raise awareness about the number of people with a learning disability who have found themselves facing huge debts as a result of being given credit and store cards.
It is targeting financial trade press in a bid to get firms to train employees about the difficulty people with a learning disability may have understanding information regarding interest rates and repayments.
National letters pages and financial editors will also be targeted with advice about debt at Christmas.
‘We are deeply concerned by the lack of accessible information provided to people about card facilities,’ said Mencap senior PR officer Naomi Creeger.
