Netflix readies UK comms initiative
PR Week UK, Friday, 06 August 2004, 12:00am,
Netflix, the US’s biggest online DVD rental company, is preparing for a PR offensive ahead of the company’s UK launch later this year.
Former SAB Miller director of communications Nick Chaloner has re-emerged as Netflix’s first head of UK PR as the company negotiates the final stages of a pitch for PR support in the UK.
‘It has been well trailed that Netflix is planning to launch in the UK in the fourth quarter of this year and clearly that will require PR support,’ said Chaloner, who joined Netflix last month.
Chaloner was made redundant from SAB Miller following a restructuring of the brewer’s comms department. Sue Clark took on the wider role of SAB Miller director of corporate affairs.
Headquartered in California, Netflix has 2.1 million subscribers in the US.
