Chupa Chups, the lollipop maker, is extending into fragrances to target urban teenage girls.

The brand has teamed up with cosmetics firm Coty to launch the range, which will be called the Chupa Chups I Love Me collection.

The line will comprise four variants: Pop Vinyl, Night Fever, Soul Shine and Urban Groove. Each fragrance will be available both as a body spray, priced £1.99, and an eau de parfum retailing at £9.95. The range will be sold in Boots and Superdrug from September.

Packaging will feature a character called the Chupette girl, who will also appear in a pre-Christmas print ad campaign. This activity will be supported by a website at www.iloveme.com.

Chupa Chups decided to extend into fragrances to capitalise on its emotional appeal. Shifting 5bn units a year, it is the world's best-selling lollipop.

The Chupa Chups brand was founded in Barcelona in 1958 by Enrique Bernat.

Its logo was designed by surrealist artist Salvador Dali in the late-60s.

The company created a UK subsidiary in 1983 to market and distribute its products. Its lollipops are sold in 150 countries.

Coty already produces cosmetics for brands including Adidas, for which it also makes a range of fragrances.
