DIARY: Well you say you want a resolution...
PR Week UK, Friday, 09 January 2004, 12:00am,
As befits its name, Diary has duly clocked the time of year and rings in the new-look PRWeek with some of our industry luminaries' New Year resolutions.
Those of Luther Pendragon's ebullient founder and partner George Pitcher include 'endeavouring to know the names of the staff at LP' and thinking up more imaginative anecdotes when explaining how the agency got its name (it is derived from Uther Pendragon, according to legend the father of King Arthur, he of the round table and the sword in the stone).
Pitcher also resolves 'never to vote New Labour again' and to end his recent run of picking up penalty notices for parking in bus lanes.
Kaizo chief executive Crispin Manners says his is to 'give up vice' during 2004. Entirely coincidentally, Manners' role at the PRCA is to change from 'vice-chairman' to 'chairman' in May.
Meanwhile, and perhaps predictably given the time of year and the ubiquity of Christmas over-indulgence, PRWeek's reigning PR Professional of the Year, Nicole Lander, is to join a gym and hire a personal trainer.
Mark Bolland, the Prince of Wales's former spin doctor, says rather mischievously that he plans to spend much of the coming year 'seriously considering' whether he should join the IPR, which last November called for him to be stripped of his PRWeek Professional of the Year Award following the 'Is Prince Charles Bisexual?' debacle (PRWeek, 14 November).
What next? Lewis PR founder and general enfant terrible of the industry Chris Lewis running for president of the institute?
