Olympics set to boost UK tourist visits to Greece
Ben Bold, Marketing, Thursday, 18 December 2003, 12:00am,
More than a third of UK consumers who are considering holidaying in Greece next year, are doing so because of the Olympic Games in Athens, according to an exclusive survey for Marketing, conducted by OMD Snapshots.
The results come in the wake of last week's news that the Greek National Tourism Organisation has appointed Team Saatchi to promote the country across Europe in 2004, with a nine million euro (£6.3m) integrated campaign (Marketing, December 11).
The marketing activity will attempt to persuade people to visit Greece next year. The survey showed that UK consumers are already considering a visit to the country because of the games. Of 973 people surveyed, 11% said they were considering a visit to coincide with the event.
But more than half of those considering a trip (53%) said they would have done so regardless of the Olympics.
