Salford University creates new post for comms head
PR Week UK, Wednesday, 03 December 2003, 12:00am,
The University of Salford is revamping its communications as the university prepares to move to a new campus on the edge of Manchester city centre.
Following an internal comms audit in 2002, the university has created a new role for a head of marketing and communications who will be responsible for creating a corporate image for the university and managing internal communications.
Nobody at Salford University was available for comment on the creation of the fresh role, which is likely to involve tackling the widespread image of Salford and Manchester as depressed areas.
In July this year, Salford University vice-chancellor Michael Harloe criticised the soap opera Coronation Street for perpetuating a negative image of the Manchester area.
In an interview with the Manchester Evening News, Harloe said the show gave a dated and incorrect picture of Salford, depicting it as a region of 1930s slums.
