DIARY: No cheating at this year's PRCA quiz, but do pay attention at the back
PR Week UK, Friday, 28 November 2003, 12:00am,
Around 200 PROs descended on Sound bar in London's Leicester Square last week for the annual PRCA FrontLine quiz.
After rounds on subjects such as general knowledge and music, it was round six - questions on recent stories in PRWeek - that caused many teams problems.
Although there was no sign of the attempted cheating that marred last year's quiz, when three agencies were caught red-handed sneaking in copies of your favourite trade mag (Diary, 22 November 2002), some teams proved that they clearly aren't as abreast of the industry's news and trends as they would like to tell their clients.
A team from GCI, one of those agencies caught sneaking in copies of the magazine last year, top-scored in the PRWeek round, scoring an impressive seven out of ten.
But consumer shop EHPR, with whom the two PRWeek staffers in attendance were teamed up, scored miserably, as hacks abstained sportingly from that round. Grayling, Portfolio Communications, Weber Shandwick and Biss Lancaster also scored poorly on PRWeek's head-scratchers. Markettiers4dc fared worst in the round, bagging an embarrassing nul points. Quite shocking.
The quiz's overall winners were Hill & Know-it-all, who beat QBO Bell Pottinger and Brodeur Worldwide into second and third places.
Kaizo finished bottom but were bullish in defeat, with one team member taking the stage to defiantly bluster: 'I've seen some of the companies up there and I've taken business off about 40 per cent of you.'
Feisty stuff.
