Julian Calderara, managing director of Burkitt DDB, began his career at Bates Dorland, before moving to FCB.He joined a start-up creative independent in 1986 as a director and partner. At Burkitt DDB, he is account director for John Lewis, The Natural History Museum and Center Parcs.
Fast-flowing and highly threaded, this unusual writing reflects the mind of a highly creative and very curious writer - by that I mean he feels curious about things, rather than is a bit strange.
He has an insatiable curiosity about most things and at the same time is blessed with the ability to sail serenely through chaos, which leads me to conclude that this guy must be superb in a crisis. As his penchant is for the unusual and idiosyncratic, I reckon he has found his way into some interesting situations.
He is very much a reactor, using challenge as a springboard. He is also endowed with the sort of confidence that is denied to most of us - not the arrogant variety, but rather the cool, calm and collected conviction of feeling able to meet any challenge.
Jon Canning, creative director at Burkitt DDB, says: I was sceptical, but this is spot-on. Julian has a curiosity for just about everything, from wine to a client's business, and is magnificent under pressure. He'll love seeing the word 'endowed' in there, although I'm happy to say that I can neither confirm nor deny it.
