NCVO appeals for Government aid in recruitment drive

PR Week UK, Friday, 26 September 2003, 12:00am,

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) is calling on the Government to help fund research for a national campaign aimed at boosting voluntary sector recruitment.

The charity sector body said it planned to conduct research into the attitudes of young people towards working in the voluntary sector. The move is part of an effort to get school and university careers advisers to promote job prospects at charities, and to encourage graduates to consider a future in charity work.

NCVO PRO James Georgalakis said the body also hoped to use the research to persuade charities to mount their own campaigns. ‘We will do PR work on this and try to reach careers advisers at universities and schools, but we also want charities themselves to get involved,’ he said.

A MORI publication, called Graduate Prospects and released in July this year, said just three per cent of graduates planned to apply for jobs with charities.
