CHARITY : Action Research is this week rebranding itself as Action Medical Research. While the charity will keep Paddington Bear as its mascot, the company has revamped its look and changed its name with assistance from design company Smith & Milton. Action Medical Research will now replace its cross logo with a blue button and the slogan ‘give and let live’.
TRANSPORT: Strathclyde Pass-enger Transport Authority, has re-appointed McGrigor Donald Public Policy to advise it on strategic public affairs for the next three years. McGrigor won the pitch against six other agencies and started work this month. The authority is responsible for Glasgow’s subway transport, rail network investment, bus and ferry subsidies, and manages the city’s travel centres.
CHARITY: The Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation has joined forces with Classic FM ahead of next month’s Arts & Kids Week. The foundation is working with the radio station to promote and stage a number of music, theatre and dance events aimed at encouraging children to get involved in the arts. The is the first time the event, which runs from 6 to 10 October, will be staged.
BARNET: The London Borough of Barnet is gathering support for a capital-wide campaign against the planned closure of 3000 post offices across the UK. Council leader Victor Lyon has written to all 32 London boroughs calling for support for the campaign.
CHARITY : Homeless charity Shelter is releasing research today (Friday) revealing that around three quarters of employees think their bosses don’t do enough to support charities. The research is being used to promote the charity’s annual Strip 4 Shelter event, which encourages people to wear their football teams’ colours today to raise money; this raised £110,000 last year.
TECHNOLOGY: London Technology Network, a Department for Trade and Industry scheme set up this year to increase links between London academics and business, has hired Fuse PR. The agency will target businesses to take part in a series of seminars and briefings that start next month.
EVENT: The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) is holding a networking event in Manchester on 2 October. The event, at the NUJ’s office in the city, will be aimed at PROs in the North West and is hosted by the union’s Public Relations and Information Industrial Council.
