Waste project pitches PR support
Joe Lepper, PR Week UK, Thursday, 26 June 2003, 12:00am,
The Waste and Resources Action Programme, a Government-backed group set up to promote recycling and sustainable waste management, is on the hunt for PR and communications support.
The programme, set up two years ago, has this week announced plans to refresh its PR roster and is now looking for firms to sign up.
Work will include PR support, media training and marketing, as well as print and design. The programme currently uses, among others, Pelican Public Relations.
A spokeswoman said the aim of the roster was to eliminate the need for a tender process for every piece of comms activity.
PR work will include stakeholder relations with businesses and local authorities, as well as more general media relations.
Communicating with academics is also important, as the programme promotes research surrounding recycling and sustainable waste management.
The announcement comes as the programme seeks a new communications manager, following the departure earlier this year of Liz Ribbans, who has returned to journalism.
The programme is funded by the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, as well as the regional governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This summer the programme launches a £16.5m set of initiatives aimed at reducing waste and encouraging recycling. These include the promotion of home composting and a campaign urging supermarkets to reduce their waste.
The organisation also stepped up the help offered to councils in
implementing recycling schemes.
