Wynn quits top Powergen role for LE job

London Electricity Group has appointed Powergen’s director of corporate affairs Gareth Wynn as its first director of communications.

The role has been created following a review in the aftermath of the firm’s acquisition of Seeboard last July.

Wynn is to join in August and, according to group media relations manager Derek Salter, his priority will be to carry out a review of the firm’s post-acquisition comms needs.

The company currently has no retained external PR support, but Salter, who is to quit the industry this week, said the possibility of taking firms on will be considered.

Wynn will also look at the internal structure, which is currently around 12-strong.

The firm’s previous most senior PRO was head of corporate affairs Paul Taylor, who took voluntary redundancy and left last month.

At Powergen, Wynn will not be replaced. The role had effectively already ceased to exist, as Wynn has most recently been working on secondment at Powergen’s parent company E.ON as vice president for US and UK corporate affairs.

Meanwhile, Powergen this week handed the Gem Group its entire sports sponsorship account, completing a review of comms that followed its acquisition of TXU last year.
