DIARY: Joe Public Relations gains free Radio 1 air time
PR Week UK, Friday, 21 February 2003, 12:00am,
Any PR agency spending hours planning strategies to gain valuable radio air-time for clients should perhaps take a leaf out of Joe Public Relations' book.
Staff at the Hammersmith-based agency were beside themselves last Thursday when Radio 1's Chris Moyles provided no less than 47 seconds of space for their client list.
The fun started as MD Matthew Wood emailed Moyles: 'Hi Chris - us lot at Joe Public Relations listen to your show all the time, and so far today you have mentioned two of our clients, thanks! Why don't you mention the rest to make a full house?'
Amazingly, the DJ then read out the agency's entire client list, even detailing how to vote for client WHSmith's book awards.
The moral of the story? Never underestimate the importance of brown-nosing emails to Radio 1.
